MHS Exam Schedule and Information

EXAM REMINDERS FOR STUDENTS

It is hard to believe, but the end of the semester is here.  The teachers have worked extremely hard to prepare you over the course of the semester and you, as well, have put in the time and work to be successful.  Here are a few important reminders as we continue to work toward being the top high school in North Carolina.

All non-EOC final exams will be taken on January 13th and 14th.  This includes teacher-made exams, North Carolina Final Exams, and VOCATS.  See the schedule on the reverse side and make sure that you review the schedule closely.  Students will have two exams per day with a 30 minute break in between exams.  First and Second period exams will be given on January 13th followed by Third and Fourth period exams on January 14th.
ENGLISH II and MATH I EOCs will be given on January 15th.
The BIOLOGY EOC will be given on January 16th.
January 17th will serve as a make-up testing day.
Mark your calendars!

Attendance is of the utmost importance on these days. If you are unable to attend during these days you need prior administrative approval.  You will NOT receive credit for the class if you do not sit for your exam.

The only students who are exempt from a non-EOC, non-VOCAT, non-State test are SENIORS WITH AN A AVERAGE in the elective course.  The senior must also have 6 or less absences for the course, as of 1/3/14.

When you look at the schedule, you notice that there is a 45-minute break between exams.  Lunch will be served in both cafeterias (Main & Magnolia), but your choices will be very limited.  Obviously we cannot all fit in both cafeterias.  We will provide you with other places to congregate such as the gym or rec. room.  You are also welcome to go to your next testing location and quietly study and prepare for your next exam.  There will be excessive adult supervision during this time all over campus, so please make sure that you use this time wisely and appropriately.  Any students who have a discipline problem during this time will be asked to leave and may be given the opportunity to take exams on the make-up days.

Please note that bus transportation will run on a normal schedule.  There will not be a mid-day run, except to shuttle students to and from Woods.  If for example, you are a senior and have a first period exam and are exempt from your second block exam, you will need to find your own transportation home at 10:25am.      Wednesday, January 15th, Thursday, January 16th, and Friday, January 17th are EOC testing days and a Make-up Day.  There is a change to this day from in the past for our students.  All students who are not in attendance on January 15th-January 17th will be marked “absent.”  But, this absence will not count toward their attendance requirement for the first semester at MHS.  It will count toward our athlete’s eligibility though, according to the NCHSAA guidelines.
The only students who need to be in attendance January 15-17 are those who:
have to take the English II EOC, Math I EOC, or Biology EOC (Wed. and/or Thur.).
were absent on and need to make up exams.
are athletes for MHS and have more than 12 absences in ANY class.
are students that are striving for perfect attendance.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Final Exams count as 20% of a student’s final course grade.  The exam can significantly improve final grades.  Given our goal of becoming the top performing high school in North Carolina, each student plays an important role in achieving this goal.  Students please make sure over the next week that you are studying, catching up on assignments, and putting yourself in the best possible position going into final exams.  Attend after school review sessions that are being provided by all subject areas!  Exams will be here before we know it.
