White House Film Fest Contest

Here's an awesome opportunity for students at MHS to have their film featured at the White House!  Read on for more info.

Yeah, having your schoolwork posted on the fridge at home is cool. But having a video you made posted on the White House website and screened at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? We think that’s pretty cool, too. That’s why we’re super-excited to announce the first-ever White House Student Film Festival: a video contest created just for K-12 students, and whose finalists will have their short films shown at the White House. Finalist videos may also be featured on the White House website, YouTube channel, and social media pages.

They are looking for films by students (less than 3 minutes long) that address one of two themes:
1. How you currently use technology in your classroom or school.
2. The role technology will play in education in the future.

Check out the http://www.whitehouse.gov/filmfestival website for more info!

Announcing Naviance!

Today we rolled out Naviance for our students and parents. This website allows our students to research scholarships, colleges, and careers. Guidance counselors worked with students to help them login and complete a grade-level task, such as taking a
learning skills inventory or using Super Match to start a list of colleges. Our student Naviance Navigators trained their homerooms on the program. Videos showing how to access the various parts of the program have been posted in the Angel MHS Students group. We will continue to work with Naviance this year and look forward to providing our students with even more resources to prepare for their future. Check out some of the pictures from today's launch!

College Fair Sept. 25

Our annual college fair for seniors will be held on September 25 in the Magnolia gym from 8:30am - 9:30am.  80 colleges and universities will be in attendance!  An announcement will be made at 8:25am instructing seniors to go to the Magnolia gym.  Seniors who have Woods 1st block will NOT go to Woods.  Instead, seniors who have a Woods class 1st block will go to the MHS auditorium until they are called to the Magnolia gym.

FAQ's
1. There will be a shuttle bus at Magnolia at the end of the college fair to take seniors to Woods for 2nd block.
2. Seniors at MHS should be in 2nd block by 9:40am.
3. The college fair is for seniors only.  Due to the number of colleges attending and the size of the senior class, parents cannot attend.
4. Seniors will receive a map of where to find the colleges and a list of sample questions to ask the admission reps on the day of the fair.
5. At each college/university table, seniors are asked to fill out an information card.  It would be helpful if each senior had a sheet of address labels.  Each label should include their name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.  Seniors can take their label and stick it to the info card so they are able to visit as many schools as possible on this important day.  Please encourage our seniors to do this.
6. The list of attending colleges/universities is below. The list can also be found on Angel and on the bulletin board outside of the counseling office.

Student Schedules

Our administration and guidance staff has worked very hard on our master schedule and student schedules this summer. Due to the continuous efforts of our staff we have again been able to keep class sizes at an appropriate level and offer as many engaging electives in addition to our core courses. Student schedules will be mailed home the week of August 19th. Your schedule will reflect the courses you verified in the spring during the registration process. Again our staff has done the best they can to meet those requests and have made personal calls to families where there has been a need for major changes. Based on these efforts and the limits on movement, there will be no schedule changes. Thank you for respecting this necessary move and we are certainly here to answer any questions you may have upon receipt of your child’s schedule.
